Explore Smart String Box

The SSX - Smart String Monitor is the ideal complement for the photovoltaic combiner box, that allows you to connect several PV strings in parallel, and measure the current flowing through each string. The main goal is to facilitate the operation and maintenance task of the PV plant. The string current are measured by Hall effect sensors, and DC voltage is also being measured connecting an external cable.

In case of a sensor failure you don’t have to replace the whole main board but only the defective board. Voltage board includes one DC voltage channel, and voltage to be measured should be conduit to the Sunclix connector of the DC voltage board using an external cable. Remote data can be gathered using Modbus-RTU protocol, with Data+, Data-, GND and Shield connectors. Independent terminal blocks for input and output communication cables are being used.

The SSX is composed of a main board (main datalogger and Modbus interface), and current and voltage sensor boards (up to 9 boards).

Each current board sensor monitors one or two string inputs, up to 40A per string, being easily adaptable to the main board.

Easy to Replace

The current and voltage boards can be exchanged individually through two easy manipulating screws, without removing the main board. This design streamlines spare tasks and minimizes the out of service time.

In case of a sensor failure you don’t have to replace the whole main board but only the defective board.

Our semi-finished assembly SSX – Smart String Box provides spacers and screws to fix the board with the mounting plate inside the cabinet. You can easily add the SSX from workstation to workstation until the final assembly is produced.

SSX — Smart String Box has many specific technical applications

Below you will find various application notes for the Smart String Box each has been developed according to different needs and environments.

Smart String Box for PV plants.

The Smart String Monitor is integrated into PV string boxes and allows knowing the main parameters and detect possible failures in the PV modules. Webdom delivers strings boxes mounted and pre-wired in polyester enclosures, with fuses in positive and negative lines, surge voltage protection and main switch.

Power supply can be with external AC line 110/230VAC, or using a self-powered DC-DC converter. Cabinet for indoor/outdoor use with skew roof, made of insulating, slow-burning and self-extinguishing composite: Polyester + Glass fiber.

Smart String Box for PV plants.

Outage. On board Datalogger.

In case of power failure or mains, the datalogger incorporated in the electronic board keeps all historical data for 1 year. SSX analog inputs allow you to connect pyranometers, anemometers, temperature and humidity sensors, among others. The analog inputs are type 4-10mA, 0-10V, PT100 / PT1000.

With this system the sensors are connected directly to the box strings of each row of PV panels. Consequently meters minimizing wiring and lower installation costs and maintenance.

The digital inputs and outputs electronics Smart String Box allow you to connect all types of sensors for a more secure installation. Attaches an opening sensor in the door of the Smart String Box and thus control access. Connects to a theft detector PV panels through a closed loop fiber optics.

For installations where a box of 32 Strings required with current sensors 16, 32 Strings two to two with the same control SSX-Smart String Box electronics are monitored. Each plate of two sensors of the electronic control holds up to 40A. The following diagram shows the comparative wiring between a facility that requires 32 (left) and 16 Strings (Right).
